The Changing Face Of Content Consumption:

Smartphones have become an essential part of our lives. The Internet Data Consumption has had a massive growth since the last year, which eventually has made India, the second largest country in the internet market. Moving on, India is at 1st position in app downloads and time spent on Android phones. Currently, at 355 mn, smartphone penetration in India is expected to grow to 520 mn by 2020. Smartphones have become so mandatory that they are now the preferred device for content and media consumption, heralding in a new era of digitization which is giving preference to relevant and ‘portable’ content at fingertips.

A hell lot of categories are present over the internet, but Entertainment, sports, news are the most-preferred categories for digital content consumers. A trend shared by UC News, which is a news and content aggregation platform by Alibaba Mobile Business Group, in January highlight that 73 percent of online content consumers are tagged under the Entertainment Category with a high number consuming sports-related content, especially cricket. Cricket makes up for 68% of all sports-related content consumed on UC News.

Well, focusing on niche content is helping brands like Alibaba-owned UCWeb, HTC and BIGO Live scale new heights in India.

UC Browser has achieved over 50% market share in India and is the sixth most downloaded application on Android platform with over 100 million Monthly Active Users. UC Browser has come up with a new thing called UC Cricket. It is a key component within UC Browser which gives live scores, match updates, match commentary, videos and much more. This cricket season (IPL and ICC Champions Trophy– April to June 2017), cumulative user traffic for all cricket-related content exceeded 0.75 billion on UCWeb Platforms – UC News and UC Browser. Regularly, over 3 million cricket fans used UC News and UC Browser for remaining updating themselves with the latest cricket news. This gave them 7 million hours of cumulative content reading, which is a massive 230% of growth from last year(includes the Tier I, Tier II, rural regions & metro cities).

Gaming has also been an another interest of youngsters. The gaming industry is no doubt a front runner in augmented and virtual reality technologies with investors eager to participate with over billions of dollars. However, it isn’t the only industry which is benefiting from advancements in virtual reality. the practical implications of VR in entertainment, education and healthcare along with many others are virtually limitless.

HTC Vive is the first complete VR system that has been made available to customers in the Indian market. With Vive, HTC delivers top-notch VR experiences like never before with room scale movement. With HTC Vive, people have access to a wide library of apps and content across education, design, art, social, video, music, sports, health, fashion, travel, news, shopping, creativity tools and lot more.

BIGO LIVE(Mobile Broadcasting app)on the other hand, provides a real-time interaction and video streaming to the users and allows users to live broadcast their talent and connect with their fans and other talented broadcasters as well as follow interesting broadcasters. It allows its users to watch live broadcasting anytime, anywhere and engage with the audience through live sessions. The platform gives users a chance to broadcast what they are good at and live stream their performances.  Recently they have come up with a new feature VLOG, a Video recording feature for its users. This comes in very handy because people can now share whatever they wish, to a wide range of audience.

A huge no. of companies and app developers are working really hard and making apps which are easily accessible and are on the tip of your finger. This eventually causes a decline in the smartphone prize and which is beneficial to all the consumers.
